One of the objectives was to reinforce the collaboration and strengthen the relationships with international and regional actors, and bilateral partners around the world. The Forum brought the EU and its closest Partners together: partners with whom the EU has a Framework Participation Agreement in force, as well as non-EU NATO Allies and countries that are candidates for accession to the EU should have a standing invitation. Besides these countries, representatives of key international organizations (UN, NATO, OSCE, African Union, ASEAN) and other countries
It provided the venue for an international encounter among politicians, policy and opinion makers, for public diplomatic exchanges as well as an opportunity for informal gatherings. It also served as a platform for the EU to elevate its profile in the security and defence agenda and to showcase its contribution to international peace and security.
The Forum also helped establish a stronger sense of community with countries that have concluded Framework Participation Agreements and contribute to EU CSDP missions and operations.
